Confession Time! Guess what? I am a picky eater. I like what I like, gag on what I don't; and getting me to try new foods can be a bit of a challenge (just ask my husband). I like veggies: broccoli. cauliflower, spinach, carrots, potatoes, peas....and I love most fruits. Problem is how they are cooked and what they get paired with. With most veggies I just steam them and have them as a side. I don't like soups or casseroles. I am not a fan of sauces (except for a select few) and I tend to keep a closed mouth around most rice and veggie dishes. As for meat? Well, that part isn't really my fault. Red meat, as well as pig meat, makes me very ill; to the point I just end up vomiting. See, there are certain enzymes in the body that help it to digest meat, and I apparently don't have a lot of them. I can eat chicken, though sometimes I get sick from that too. Same with turkey. Oh, but I can eat fish all day if I don't get tired of it. So, I am in a bit of a food rut. (one I've been in for years) I am just cycling through the same menu over and over: pasta with cheese sauce, chicken/mashed potatoes/side veggie, sandwiches....and slight variations of those same things. Not good, very not good. It's time to crack open a cookbook and give my stubborn taste buds a workout. Part of my journey is to rediscover my zeal for cooking. I used to really enjoy cooking, now it's just a chore. Well, today I am going to pull out a cookbook and create a menu for next week. My goal is to add two new dishes to my culinary repertoire. Wish me luck!
