I've been reading a few articles and FB posts about Bucket Lists and they gave me an idea. A big part of this Journey I am on is rediscovering myself and finding who I have become in my adult life. To do this I need to step outside my own comfort zone, peek around, and see what I can find. Who knows? I might just discover a new talent or passion. Perhaps I will find a new, unexplored part of myself I never knew I was neglecting. Or maybe....just maybe....I will end up with several new hilarious stories to tickle my reader's funny bones.
Over the next 5 weeks I will be making 5 separate posts with the title of one of my Bucket List items (along with a smattering of my other regularly themed posts of course) These are all things I have either never done before (or have said I will never do), or are things I find uncomfortable or totally not "me".
1. Beta Sigma Phi!!
Confused? Don't be, it's simple. I am joining a sorority, the one thing I said I would NEVER do in college. Mostly because of my huge misconception about them. Probably the same one a lot of people have. But don't worry, there won't be any beer bongs or topless bar dancing....least not until I lose some weight (kidding!). I'll explain more in the actual post, so stay tuned.
2. Culinary Faux-blech....
Okay, I am just going to come right out and say it: I am a SUPER picky eater. I know I have mentioned this in a previous post, even made a big deal out of saying I was going to try some new dishes and what not....only it did not really happen. Oh, I've sort of branched out a tiny bit, but not by much. So, for the week I will be making this post I will try a new dish (either out or cooked at home) that will be made of foods I do not normally eat. I will even become more adventurous with my spices on my other meals (this one is for you Celeano) I will try one new meal each day of the week and take a picture of either the meal or of me eating it, then write briefly on my reaction. Actually...let's make a little change here. I once read that it takes at least two weeks to transform a bad habit. So, for this Bucket List item I will be taking two weeks to write it in an attempt to break my very bad habit of refusing to try new foods. The fortnight will begin on that Monday and the post will be published the next Sunday night. (I guess I should edit the first part of this post eh? Make it 6 weeks and 5 posts)
3. Naked Sam!
I'm going to say it here and now: no, I am NOT posting a nude picture of myself on here. I am, however, going to pay a visit to one of Europe's nude beaches. I think you already know that I have body issues and am not comfortable inside my own skin. I actually got this idea from a video sent to me by my fitness buddy.....I will go into detail in the post (and let you know how my experience goes)
4. Time to Dye-it!
I have considered dying my hair many times over the years. I am not talking about a simple color change either (I actually LOVE my natural hair color). I mean something fun, and maybe a little wild: red, blue, green, purple (streaks, not my whole head) but I have never actually plucked up the courage to do so. There has always been an excuse: oh, what if I look stupid? It's just not something Sam-like, it will make getting a job harder, yada yada yada ...well, this time I am going through with it. I am not going to go crazy, not coming out of the salon with a clown wig or anything like that. I have actually been giving it a lot of thought and have been getting advice from folks I know with good taste. I will also be using a woman who comes highly recommended; I am NOT brave enough to try it at home.
5. Lights...Camera...ACTION!
Yup, I am going to do a video post. Those that know me also know I hate having my picture taken, cannot STAND being on video, and would rather eat Jenks than be caught doing anything on camera other than maybe a voice over. I am not very confident about my appearance and just...well, I dislike seeing myself on film. But I am working on getting over my insecurities.
So there we have it. For the next six weeks I will be casting myself outside my tight little bubble and exposing myself to new experiences. I have my husband and my good friend at my side to encourage and lend a helping hand (or two or three). Together they will help keep me honest and on track with my goals (especially with the food post). Wish me luck guys!
